The European eTwinning Project “C.H.E.S.S.” “C.H.E.S.S.: Collaboration, Harmony, Education, Strategy, Sportsmanship” was successfully carried out thanks to the online collaboration between teachers and students from Italy, Greece and Spain.

The game of chess was used as a universal language within an inclusive educational path. This journey guided our students in developing “Skills for Life”, the official eTwinning theme for the 2025/2026 school year, fostering personal growth and consolidating key competences for lifelong learning.

Partner Schools:

1-ICS Bobbio Novaro, Torino, Italy

2-ICS Pascoli Pirandello, Castellammare del Golfo, Italy

3-Junior High School Pyrgos Ileias, Pyrgos Ileias, Greece

4-Institut La Romànica, Barberà del Vallès, Spain

Participants had the opportunity to explore history, rules, and cultural aspects of chess, as well as challenge their European peers in online tournaments.

The program successfully enhanced logical thinking, creativity, and fair play (respect for the opponent).

Furthermore, students integrated chess into STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) education and used educational software to create various digital products in English.

The project successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of Game-Based Learning in enhancing “Skills for Life”.

Seeing the students so deeply engaged and capable of collaborating with their European peers is proof of how school can be dynamic, open, and connected to the world.
